In the summer of 2023, a 30-year-old woman named Elora Patoine vanished, leaving behind a profound sense of concern and a mystery that stretches from Prince Edward Island to New Brunswick. Her last confirmed sighting was on June 19, 2023, in Moncton, New Brunswick, but her journey into the unknown began days earlier on Prince Edward Island. She was a woman with connections to both Prince Edward Island and Quebec, described as being five feet ten inches tall, weighing around 140 pounds, with brown curly hair, and fluent in both French and English. When she was last seen, she was wearing a brown faux leather jacket, black pants, and was carrying a school bag.
The timeline of her disappearance begins on June 17, 2023, when she was reportedly in Borden-Carleton, P.E.I., a town that serves as the island's link to the mainland via the Confederation Bridge. From there, she traveled to Moncton, New Brunswick, where she was seen two days later on Albert Street. It wasn't until late September 2023 that a person described by authorities as a "concerned citizen" officially reported her missing, prompting an investigation by the Prince District RCMP. The case was quickly deemed a high-priority file, and the RCMP's Major Crime Unit joined the investigation to piece together the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
As the investigation unfolded, authorities utilized Prince Edward Island's new Missing Persons Act, which grants police greater access to information that could be vital in locating a missing individual. Investigators have conducted interviews, examined available surveillance footage, and followed up on known contacts of Patoine. Despite these efforts and numerous tips from the public, her whereabouts remain unknown. The case has since transitioned into a cold case, but the RCMP continues to appeal to the public for any information that might shed light on what happened to Elora Patoine. The lack of answers has had a significant impact on her loved ones, and the investigation into her disappearance remains open as they await any news.
