In the early hours of March 20, 1993, Steven Leslie O'Brien, an 18-year-old male, vanished from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. At the time, he was a promising first-year student at Holland College's Culinary Institute, with aspirations of becoming a chef. After finishing his shift at the institute on the evening of March 19th, he joined friends at a downtown nightclub. The last confirmed sighting of Steven was at approximately 1:30 a.m. on March 20th, when he was seen leaving a pub on Richmond Street and walking south on Queen Street. He was wearing a white t-shirt, jeans, hiking boots, and a burgundy winter jacket over his 5'6", 140-pound frame. He also wore wire-framed prescription glasses. When he didn't return to his apartment, where his wallet and other personal items had been left, he was reported missing. The initial investigation into Steven's disappearance generated numerous tips from the concerned Charlottetown community, but as time stretched from weeks into years, valuable new information became scarce. Law enforcement has kept the case open, stating they have not ruled out any possibilities regarding what may have happened to him. Over the years, organizations like the Missing Children Society of Canada have become involved, conducting poster campaigns with age-enhanced photos in both Prince Edward Island and Toronto, an area where his family thought he might have traveled. Despite these efforts and a reward for information leading to his whereabouts, the circumstances of his disappearance remain unclear. The enduring mystery has left a significant void in the lives of his family. His parents have spoken of the daily pain of not knowing what happened to their son, a sentiment echoed by his siblings. In a testament to his memory and the passion he held for cooking, his family and friends established a memorial scholarship in his name, The Steven O'Brien Legacy Award for Aspiring Chefs, at Holland College. The case itself is a somber and perplexing one; an 18-year-old with a bright future ahead of him seemingly vanished without a trace after a night out with friends. Decades later, the investigation into Steven O'Brien's disappearance continues, with his family still holding out hope for answers.
