In the spring of 2007, a young man named Ohanes Melkon, who was also known by the nickname Johnny, was building a new life for himself in Alberta. Originally from Montreal, the 27-year-old had moved west in May of 2005 for work. He had found employment with a pipeline company in Blackfalds and also took on seasonal jobs, such as building fences in the Sylvan Lake area. On March 28, 2007, Ohanes was last seen leaving his residence on 56 Street in Innisfail, the town he called home. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as being five feet nine inches tall and weighing 161 pounds, with a slender build. He had brown eyes, a medium complexion, and either a bald or shaved head, though he sometimes had black hair. Days turned into a week with no word from Ohanes. His family grew increasingly worried when they were unable to get in touch with him, and their concern mounted when he failed to show up for his job. On April 3, 2007, his family officially reported him as a missing person. According to an Innisfail RCMP staff sergeant, Ohanes had been living with his younger brother at the time he vanished. The last time he was seen, he was reportedly stepping out to go to a local 7-11 for chips and cigarettes, but he never came back. The investigation into his whereabouts began, tracing his connections to the communities he was known to frequent, including Red Deer, Blackfalds, Sylvan Lake, Penhold, and Innisfail. Years have passed since Ohanes Melkon disappeared, yet his case remains an active investigation with the Innisfail RCMP. Police have stated that the case is particularly challenging as they have not been able to uncover any links to criminal activity; Ohanes had no criminal record and was described as a normal man working a regular job. Despite renewed pleas from law enforcement for any information, no matter how small it may seem, no significant new leads have emerged to explain what happened to him. There have been no confirmed sightings of him since that March day in 2007. The disappearance of Ohanes Melkon is a lingering mystery, a story without an ending that has left a family searching for answers and a community hoping for a resolution.
