In the spring of 2007, a 45-year-old woman named Shelley Marie Mathieu-Read vanished from her home in Sarnia, Ontario. She was last definitively seen on May 20, 2007, though a neighbor recalled seeing her ten days earlier on May 10. Shelley, a mother with blonde hair and hazel eyes, had moved to the city with her common-law husband, Thomas Moffit, in an effort to leave behind a past involving substance abuse.
