On a spring day in May of 1974, a young man named Douglas Henderson, who was 20 years old at the time, ventured out onto the waters of Georgian Bay in Ontario. He was with a companion, Alexander Korecki, and they were in a 14-foot fiberglass canoe, paddling near the shore of Depot Harbor in the area known as Big Sound.
