On July 21, 1966, a friend asked Ronnie Harper to help him remove one of his nets from the waters of Red Sucker Lake in Manitoba. The two men set off in a canoe and when they reached the spot, the men pulled on the line attached to the net, but it wouldn't budge. Increasing their effort, the men pulled harder and the line attached to the weight came loose. The sudden shift caused both men to lose their footing and the canoe to tip over.
