In the winter of 1978, a young woman named Mary Frances Gregory, aged 19, embarked on what was meant to be a vacation to Palo Alto, California. On February 15, she left her home in the small town of Parry Sound, Ontario, in the company of a male acquaintance. At the time of her departure, she was described as being 5'3" and weighing around 110 pounds, with straight, shoulder-length dark blonde to brown hair and hazel eyes. She was near-sighted and wore contact lenses. Distinguishing features included a mole on her waist or the right side of her chest and teeth that had been corrected with braces. She set off with her luggage, ready for a trip from which she would never return. The journey from Ontario to the United States began, and it is believed Mary and her companion crossed the border into New York three days after leaving Parry Sound. The man she was traveling with, who has never been publicly identified, later recounted their route to the police. He claimed they drove through a succession of states, including New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona, before finally arriving in Nevada. According to his statement, their journey together ended on February 28, 1978, when he dropped Mary off at a bus station in Las Vegas, approximately ten days after they had left her home in Canada. No public explanation has ever been provided as to why she was left at the bus station. Mary Frances Gregory never arrived at her intended destination in California, and no friends or family have heard from her since she left home. The luggage she was carrying has never been found. Her disappearance is considered to involve foul play, and her case remains an active investigation with the Ontario Provincial Police in Parry Sound. Her family has held onto the belief that she may have experienced some form of memory loss around the time she went missing. Decades have passed since the 19-year-old from Parry Sound vanished, leaving behind a host of unanswered questions. The narrative of her cross-country trip ends abruptly in Las Vegas, based solely on the account of the last person known to have seen her, creating a mystery that has endured for years.
