In the small community of Iroquois Falls, Ontario, a sense of unease settled when 17-year-old Rebecca Fudge-Schnarr vanished on the morning of November 24, 2022. Known to her loved ones as Becky, she was last seen at her family's home on Moffat Road at approximately 10:00 a.m. At the time of her disappearance, Rebecca was described as Caucasian, standing 5-foot-3 inches tall and weighing around 110 pounds, with long blonde hair and dark-framed glasses. The last image her family has of her is one of a typical teenager, dressed in a hoodie, a jean jacket, jeans, and shin-high grey boots, carrying a distinctive white, floral-patterned bag. Rebecca was known to have friends and acquaintances in the nearby city of Timmins, as well as in the more distant Kitchener area, leaving open the possibility that she may have intended to travel. As days turned into weeks and weeks into months with no word from Rebecca, the concern of her family and community grew into a widespread effort to find her. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) launched an investigation into her disappearance, treating it with the seriousness it deserved. Her family's desperation for answers was palpable, and the community rallied around them, hoping for any news that might bring the young woman home safely. To amplify their pleas for information, the OPP unveiled two billboards on Highway 11, near Kelso Road, to mark the two-year anniversary of her disappearance and announced a $50,000 reward for any information that would lead to her whereabouts. This reward remains in place, a standing testament to the ongoing search for answers. The investigation took a more somber turn as police began to suspect that foul play was a factor in Rebecca's disappearance. This led investigators to a monumental undertaking: a forensic search of the Nellie Lake landfill in Iroquois Falls. Beginning on July 10, 2025, a team of around 20 OPP officers, with the assistance of contractors and heavy equipment, began the arduous task of sifting through thousands of cubic meters of material in search of any evidence, including the possibility of finding Rebecca's remains. This intensive search has been ongoing for many months, signaling a belief from law enforcement that Rebecca may no longer be alive. The case, managed by the OPP's Criminal Investigation Branch, remains an active and ongoing criminal investigation. While specifics of the evidence that led them to the landfill have not been released to protect the integrity of the investigation, the search itself speaks to the commitment of law enforcement to find a resolution for Rebecca, her family, and a community still waiting for answers.
