His family noted he had an ostomy bag, which limited his mobility, and though he had not been diagnosed with dementia, he could experience periods of mild confusion. The search for Paul Doughty intensified, and on September 1, 2021, a significant but perplexing discovery was made. His car, a grey 2013 Buick Verano, was located deep in the woods, approximately 10 kilometers from the blueberry stand where he was last seen. The vehicle was found snagged on a stump down a series of old logging roads, a location his family felt was uncharacteristic for him to have driven to. Adding to the bewilderment, the blueberry pie he had purchased that day sat untouched in the backseat. This discovery prompted extensive searches of the surrounding area by the RCMP, search and rescue teams, and concerned volunteers. Despite these efforts, which included ground and air searches, no trace of Paul was found.
