In the late summer of 2018, a 33-year-old man named Leroy George Custer vanished from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, leaving his family enveloped in a cloud of uncertainty and worry. He was last definitively seen sometime between August 31 and September 1, 2018, riding his bicycle north along a residential street in the city's west end. Originally from the Pelican Narrows First Nation, Leroy maintained connections with communities throughout northern Saskatchewan and into Manitoba. His family described him as someone who would not just disappear, making his sudden silence all the more alarming. It was highly uncharacteristic for him to fall out of contact with his loved ones, who have been searching for answers ever since. At the time he went missing, Leroy was described as being a First Nation male, standing 5'8" tall and weighing around 145 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. A small, distinctive scar marked his left cheek, just above the corner of his mouth. The last time anyone saw him, he was believed to be wearing a white or grey sweater, which may have had a zipper, along with black baggy wind pants. Known to occasionally hitchhike, there was a possibility that Leroy had been planning to travel outside of Prince Albert, a detail that broadened the search area but also complicated efforts to find him. His family reported him missing on October 20, 2018, though some reports suggest he had not been in contact with them since June of that year. In the years following Leroy's disappearance, his family and law enforcement have pursued numerous leads and investigated potential sightings, but none have led to his location. The search efforts have been extensive, with family members scouring communities across both Saskatchewan and Manitoba, hoping for any sign of him. In September 2019, the investigation led RCMP underwater recovery teams to search Hapnot Lake, which straddles the border between the two provinces, for any evidence related to Leroy's case. Despite these exhaustive efforts, his whereabouts remain unknown. The case of Leroy George Custer is an ongoing investigation, a painful story of a family left waiting and a man who seemingly vanished without a trace.
