In the early summer of June 13, 2000, 36-year-old Paul Côté, a father of two and a former officer with the Canadian Armed Forces Airborne Regiment, disappeared from his home in Rimouski, Québec. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as measuring 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing approximately 209 pounds, with graying hair and hazel eyes. The last time he was seen, he was in possession of a .44 caliber handgun, a detail that added a layer of concern for his family and investigators from the outset of the case. His departure left his loved ones with questions and a profound sense of unease, marking the beginning of a long and painful search for answers. The initial hope of a swift discovery began to fade as days turned into an agonizing wait. A significant development in the case came five days after he was last seen, on June 18, 2000, when his black 2000 Chevrolet Blazer was located. The vehicle was found abandoned in the rear parking lot of the Marché Métro Sirois in the Nazareth district of Rimouski. According to witnesses, the Blazer had been parked in that same spot for several days before it was officially discovered and linked to the missing persons case. The recovery of his vehicle, devoid of its owner, only deepened the mystery surrounding his sudden disappearance and what might have happened to him after he left his home. Over the years, the investigation into Paul Côté's disappearance has remained open, though the case has grown cold. The Sûreté du Québec, the provincial police force, has publicly stated that their investigation suggests that Côté was likely the victim of a murder. Despite this strong suspicion, the case remains unresolved, and his family is left without closure, unable to fully mourn their loss. His sister has expressed the ongoing pain and the family's desperate need for answers to finally end their two-decade-long period of uncertainty. The official police file remains open, and authorities continue to appeal to the public for any information that might shed light on the final moments of Paul Côté's life and lead to a resolution in this tragic and enduring mystery.
