In the small, remote community of Klemtu, British Columbia, accessible only by ferry or float plane, 24-year-old Maxwell William Brown Jr. vanished in the early hours of May 1, 2012. Originally from the nearby community of Bella Bella, Maxwell, who also went by Max, was in Klemtu visiting friends. He was last seen at approximately 1:00 a.m., and what should have been a temporary visit turned into an enduring mystery that has left his family and community searching for answers for over a decade. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance are particularly baffling given the isolated nature of Klemtu; authorities confirmed that Maxwell was not a passenger on any departing ferry or float plane, deepening the questions surrounding how he could have left the island unnoticed. Maxwell is described as an Aboriginal male, standing approximately five feet and ten inches tall with a slender build and short black hair. He had two noticeable tattoos on his neck: the words “Rest in Peace” on the left side and a raven. At the time he went missing, he weighed around 161 pounds and had brown eyes. The official investigation into his disappearance was extensive, involving a thorough search of the area, yet it yielded no clues as to his whereabouts, and he has not been located since. The years following Maxwell's disappearance have been filled with heartache and unanswered questions for his loved ones. His family has expressed the painful belief that someone within the small community must hold information that could be crucial to solving the case. The Prince Rupert RCMP detachment has been handling the investigation and continues to ask for anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward.
