On October 19, 1969, Ronald Bonkowski went fishing with two friends on the Winnipeg River, on the outskirts of Pointe du Bois in Manitoba. Upon reaching their desired location, they anchored their boat in fast-moving water. However, the anchor became ensnared in the riverbed, causing the boat to capsize.
