On the evening of November 12, 1984, Pamela was socializing with friends at a downtown establishment then known as Martin's Lounge on Water Street. It was a mild Monday night when she made a decision that would leave her family and friends searching for answers for decades to come. Later that evening, Pamela informed her friends that she was stepping out but would return in about 20 minutes. She left her wallet behind, a detail that suggested she fully intended to come back. Witnesses later reported seeing Pamela near the War Memorial on Duckworth Street at approximately 9:30 p.m. It was there she was last seen getting into a large, dark-colored car. The driver of the vehicle was described as a man with a large build who was wearing a baseball hat. The car drove away, and Pamela Ann Asprey was never seen or heard from again. Her roommate officially reported her missing two days later when she failed to return home. The disappearance of Pamela Asprey sent a wave of fear through the community, as she was one of several young women who had gone missing in the St. John's area around that time. Despite the passage of years, her case has remained open, a persistent and painful mystery for her loved ones and for law enforcement. Investigators have pursued various leads and tips over the decades, but a breakthrough has remained elusive.
