Missing-child notices emphasize that even information that may seem minor could matter, because small observations can sometimes help investigators or family members understand where a young person may have gone, who they may have been with, or whether someone saw something around the time he disappeared. Public notices about Travis’s disappearance do not provide a detailed timeline of the day he was last seen, the circumstances leading up to his disappearance, or whether he may have left voluntarily or under unknown circumstances.
The public description released for Travis gives identifying information intended to help people recognize him if they have seen him since he was reported missing. In addition to his age, sex, height, weight, hair color, and eye color, one online listing notes that he has a scar near his right eye. That kind of identifying detail can be important in a missing-person case because a physical marker may help distinguish him from others with a similar age, build, or appearance. The online alerts available do not provide clothing information, a last known address, known destinations, transportation details, or names of agencies handling the investigation.
