These evening walks were a normal part of that routine, and she would always return home. However, on this particular summer evening, Barbara did not come back.
The following day, August 1, 2021, after her son realized she was missing, family members alerted the authorities. The response was immediate and robust. The Polk County Police Department initiated a 'Mattie's Call,' Georgia's emergency alert for missing elderly or impaired adults, to quickly notify the public.
