An investigation is underway into the disappearance of 11-year-old Jacob Pritchett, who was last seen in Brooklyn, New York. Concerns for the boy, who is autistic and nonverbal, grew after neighbors reported they had not seen him for an extended period. The New York City Police Department has released a sketch of Jacob, described as a Black male with a medium complexion, brown eyes, and black hair, as they have been unable to locate any photographs of him.
The circumstances surrounding Jacob's disappearance are deeply troubling. The investigation began on September 25, 2025, when the Administration for Children's Services conducted a wellness check at his mother's apartment on Howard Avenue in Brownsville. During this visit, Jacob's mother reportedly denied having a son and initially refused entry to the authorities. Despite her claims, investigators discovered a birth certificate listing her as his mother. Neighbors reported occasionally seeing Jacob in the window of the apartment but noted that he never came outside to play. There is also no record of him being enrolled in public school.
The investigation has escalated significantly based on discoveries at the family's apartment and subsequent search efforts. Upon gaining access to the residence, which lacked electricity, police found no sign of Jacob. During a search of the apartment, a cadaver dog indicated the presence of human blood near the refrigerator. This discovery, coupled with the mother's uncooperative stance, has led to a large-scale search operation. The search for Jacob has expanded beyond the Brooklyn apartment to include a landfill in Perinton, New York, over 300 miles away, where garbage from New York City is taken.
