On August 22, 2021, 42-year-old James Daniels Jr. vanished under perplexing circumstances in Yavapai County, Arizona. Hailing from Jackson, Wyoming, Daniels was in the process of helping a friend relocate from Nevada to Mississippi. The two were traveling in separate vehicles when one of the vehicles sustained a flat tire on U.S. Highway 93, between Kingman and Wickenburg, around sunset on August 21.
Daniels volunteered to stay behind with a trailer, a white International box truck, and his friend's brown and white spaniel named Penny, while his friend went to get the tire repaired.
The friend traveled to Wickenburg but was unable to get the tire serviced until the following morning. Upon his return to the spot where he had left Daniels, he discovered that both Daniels and the truck were gone. The timeline of events that followed is based on witness accounts and law enforcement reports. Between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m. on August 22, four witnesses reported seeing Daniels on the side of the highway, noting that he appeared disoriented.
By the time an Arizona State Trooper arrived at the scene at approximately 4:30 a.m., Daniels was nowhere to be found. The trooper did see the dog, Penny, but she ran off into the desert and disappeared. The white International box truck Daniels was with had the words "Liberty Distribution" on the sides and "Got Milk" on the back, and it did not have any license plates.
Despite the passage of time, James Daniels Jr. has not been seen or heard from since that morning. Law enforcement agencies from both Wyoming and Arizona have been involved in the investigation into his disappearance. The Teton County Sheriff's Office in Wyoming initially handled the missing person case before transferring it to the Mojave County authorities in Arizona. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain unclear, leaving his family and friends seeking answers. Daniels, who also goes by the nicknames "JD" or "Mojo," is described as a Black male, 5'11" tall, weighing 185 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
