In the autumn of 1992, a 35-year-old mother of four named Roseann Marie Stone Pleasant vanished from Spokane, Washington. She was last seen on the afternoon of September 29, 1992, at a convenience store located at the corner of Ash and Nora streets. At the time of her disappearance, Roseann was facing personal struggles, including a drug addiction and involvement in sex work. The period leading up to her disappearance was marked by fear and a sense of urgency. Just a week before she went missing, Roseann had confided in her brother in Arizona, expressing grave concerns for her safety. She had made plans to leave Washington with three of her children and move south, a move she tragically never had the chance to make. The initial investigation into Roseann's disappearance was complicated by her high-risk lifestyle, leading authorities to consider the possibility that she could have been a victim of a serial killer active in the area. A few months prior, a friend of Roseann's, who was also a sex worker, had been shot and killed, amplifying the dangers of her environment. However, suspicion also fell on her former boyfriend and the father of her youngest child, William "Brad" Jackson. Their relationship had been tumultuous, with a history of domestic violence that had led to his arrest for hitting her. Roseann's brother later recounted that his sister was terrified of Jackson. When questioned by police about her disappearance, Jackson was uncooperative and refused to take a polygraph test. Years went by without any answers in Roseann's case, but a horrifying development in 1999 brought her disappearance back into the spotlight. In October of that year, Roseann and Brad's nine-year-old daughter, Valiree Brianne Jackson, was reported missing by her father. Brad initially claimed Valiree had vanished from the front yard of their home. However, investigators were suspicious of his story. In a groundbreaking use of forensic technology at the time, authorities placed a GPS tracking device on Brad's truck. This led them to a remote burial site a month later, where they tragically discovered Valiree's remains. Brad Jackson was arrested and subsequently convicted in 2000 for the murder of his daughter, receiving a 56-year prison sentence. He claimed her death was an accidental overdose, but authorities believed he had smothered her. Following his conviction for Valiree's murder, the investigation into Roseann's disappearance was reopened, with Jackson being the primary suspect. Roseann's brother has theorized that Brad, who worked in construction, may have buried her in the foundation of a building. Despite the strong suspicion, no charges have ever been filed against Brad Jackson in connection with Roseann's disappearance, and her case remains unsolved.
