In the winter of 2022, a sense of unease settled over a family and community in Loudoun County, Virginia, as 73-year-old Clarence Eugene Makely Sr. vanished without a trace. On the first of December, Mr. Makely was last seen, and then, the familiar threads of his daily life seemed to unravel into an unnerving silence.
