Christina Torres, a 34-year-old mother, was last seen in Corpus Christi, Texas on January 2, 2001, at approximately 10:00 a.m. Some reports state she was last seen on New Year's Eve of 2000. Torres, a Hispanic female with black hair and brown eyes, was an outgoing person who held two jobs, including one as a bartender. She was also the mother of an 11-year-old girl with whom she was very close.
Torres has a tattoo of a butterfly with the word "DAD" on her right shoulder and a teddy bear tattooed on her right ankle. Her ears and navel are pierced, and she has a scar on her face.
Shortly after she was reported missing, her maroon Camaro was discovered abandoned on Interstate Highway 37, just north of Mathis. Inside the vehicle, authorities found her personal belongings, including her checkbook, identification, cellular phone, gym bag, and cash. There was no sign of a struggle or foul play within the car itself; no blood or fingerprints were found. A handwritten note was found on her car with the words "don't look for me". Another note was later discovered in her work locker, in which she allegedly wrote about wanting to start her life over.
Despite the notes, foul play is suspected in her case. Her family, particularly her sister, finds it difficult to believe she would have left voluntarily without her daughter, to whom she was very devoted. Her sister mentioned that Torres was having problems with the father of her child and had expressed a desire to get away. However, the family remains convinced that she would not have abandoned her daughter.
