He was also a regular at low-end bars in the Dallas area. Prior to his disappearance, Teakell had suffered a spinal injury and subsequently developed an addiction to drugs, including methamphetamine and marijuana. He had been through drug rehabilitation multiple times and was attending Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous meetings around the time he went missing.
