Elian Amilcar Majano, a 2-year-old boy, was last seen on June 21, 2006, while playing in Lively Park in Irving, Texas. He was accompanied by his 4-year-old brother, Alexis, at the time. His mother, Yancy Majano, was also present, along with an adult male companion. The boys were reportedly out of her sight for a brief period before Elian disappeared.
Initially, authorities believed Elian might have wandered off, but despite extensive searches, no trace of him was found in the park or surrounding areas.
During the search, a sinkhole caused by a broken sewer pipe was discovered near the park, raising concerns that Elian might have fallen into it. Dogs traced his scent to the sinkhole, and his brother Alexis even indicated that Elian had fallen. However, after the sinkhole was examined, and the sewer system was searched using cameras, no signs of Elian were found. Investigators also explored the possibility of abduction but found little evidence to support this theory, especially since the park was full of people at the time of his disappearance.
The case remains open and unsolved.
