Taffy G. Overstreet, a 51-year-old woman from Houston, Texas, has been missing since November 7, 2010, and is presumed to be a victim of foul play. She was last seen at her residence in the 6400 block of Micollett Street. Her disappearance occurred simultaneously with that of her husband, Archery Lynn "Archie" Overstreet, a man with a violent criminal history.
On the day she vanished, Taffy made several distressed calls to her son, Shabocker Rawls, stating that her husband was intoxicated and had assaulted her. Rawls reported hearing yelling in the background during one of these calls, and his mother expressed her desire for Archery to leave her home. Taffy also contacted her uncle for assistance in removing Archery from the house. When her uncle arrived at her home later that evening, Taffy's car was gone, and no one answered the door. The last known communication from Taffy was a phone call to a cousin at 10:18 p.m., in which she mentioned having asked her husband to move out. An entry was made on her Facebook page shortly after midnight on November 8, but it is uncertain if she made the post herself.
Two days later, after numerous unanswered calls, Taffy's son went to her house and broke in when he received no answer. He found the home deserted, with his mother's car, laptop, cell phone, and two pistols missing. Archery's clothing was also gone. A significant discovery was Archery's ankle monitor, which had been cut off and left at the residence. As a parolee with a history of violent crimes including attempted capital murder of a police officer, Archery was required to wear the device.
Investigators tracked Archery's movements through his cell phone records, which showed a path from Texas through Louisiana, Florida, and New York, before returning to Florida between November 8 and 17. During this time, Taffy's debit card was used numerous times in Jacksonville, Florida. On December 8, 2010, Archery was arrested in Jacksonville during a traffic stop while driving Taffy's dark green 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis. A search of the vehicle's trunk revealed a 9mm handgun and a roll of duct tape stained with blood, which DNA testing later indicated was likely Taffy's.
Following his arrest, Archery claimed to have no knowledge of Taffy's whereabouts, stating he last saw her asleep at their home. He admitted to stealing her belongings. Archery was initially sentenced to 35 years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentencing court acknowledged the strong evidence suggesting he had murdered Taffy, which resulted in a harsher sentence.
