On what should have been a day of recreation and adventure, a tragic event unfolded off the Oregon coast, leading to the disappearance of Timothy Thomas Albus. On June 14, 2003, the 43-year-old man from Madras, Oregon, was on a charter fishing boat named the Taki Tooo in Tillamook Bay. What began as a fishing excursion with his brother and others turned into a devastating incident when the vessel suddenly capsized. The chaos that ensued left an indelible mark on the lives of everyone involved and resulted in a mystery that has yet to be fully resolved. The sudden capsizing of the Taki Tooo plunged its occupants into the cold waters of Tillamook Bay. In the immediate aftermath, a frantic struggle for survival began. Eight individuals, aided by life jackets, managed to swim several hundred yards to the safety of the shore. Tragically, not everyone was as fortunate. The incident claimed the lives of nine people, one of whom was Timothy's own brother, compounding the heartbreak of the day. Amidst the survivors and the deceased, two men remained unaccounted for: Timothy Thomas Albus and Barry Michael Sundberg from Cheney, Washington. In the days that followed the accident, extensive search efforts were launched in the hopes of finding the two missing men. While searchers never located Timothy or Barry, a poignant discovery was made when Timothy's sweatshirt was found lodged on the rocks of the Tillamook Bay jetty. Despite this small clue, their bodies have never been recovered. The case is a somber reminder of the unforgiving power of the sea. Timothy Albus, along with Barry Sundberg, is presumed to have died in the tragic capsizing of the Taki Tooo, a disastrous event that ended a day of fishing in immense loss and left the final fate of two men to the depths of the ocean.
