In the early morning hours of February 2, 2016, 20-year-old Rose Marie Timperley vanished from the care home where she was a resident in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Staff at the facility last saw her at 2:30 a.m. She had gone to bed around 10:00 p.m. the previous evening but had been getting up periodically throughout the night. When a staff member went to check on her at 4:00 a.m., they found her door locked.
After gaining access to the room through an adjoining bathroom, the staff discovered that Rose was gone. The window in her room was open, and some of her personal belongings were found scattered across the yard. At the time of her disappearance, Rose was described as being 5'5' tall and weighing 120 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was believed to be wearing a gray t-shirt, pink pajama pants with the character Tweety Bird on them, and tall tan cowboy boots.
Rose is a vulnerable individual, living with developmental disabilities, high-functioning autism, and schizophrenia. She has the mental capacity of a thirteen-year-old and requires daily medication which she did not have with her when she disappeared. In the period leading up to her going missing, her doctor was in the process of adjusting her medications, which was causing her to experience delusions, including seeing and talking to people who were not there. Her doctor had made plans to admit her to a hospital once a bed became available, a prospect that Rose was reportedly unhappy about. While she had a history of running away from foster homes, she would typically return within a few hours, and she had never run away from this particular care facility before.
A few days before she went missing, Rose was on the phone with an individual she referred to as 'Uncle Charles.' She told people at the care home that this person was going to pick her up to attend a family funeral. However, investigations by authorities found no one by that name in her family. It remains unclear who this person was or if they had any involvement in her disappearance. The circumstances surrounding Rose's case are concerning, given her vulnerability and the mysterious phone call. Investigators have considered various possibilities, including the potential for human trafficking.
