In the quiet, early morning hours of February 2, 2016, a 20-year-old female named Rose Marie Timperley vanished from her care home in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Staff at the facility last saw her at 2:30 a.m. Throughout the night, she had been restless, getting out of bed multiple times. When a staff member went to check on her at 4:00 a.m., they found her bedroom door locked. Gaining entry through an adjoining bathroom, the staff member discovered an empty room, an open window, and some of Rose's personal belongings scattered across the lawn. At the time of her disappearance, she was believed to be wearing a gray T-shirt, pink pajama pants adorned with the cartoon character Tweety Bird, and tall, tan cowboy boots. She may have also had on a black jacket and was known to carry an acoustic guitar with her. Rose is described as a vulnerable individual who is developmentally disabled, with the mental capacity of a young teenager. She is also autistic and, at the time she went missing, was undergoing an adjustment to her medication that was reportedly causing delusions and emotional distress. Her doctor had planned to admit her to a hospital for observation, a prospect that Rose was unhappy about due to a fear of hospitals. Although she had a history of running away from previous foster homes, she would typically return within a few hours; she had never before run away from this particular care facility. Adding a layer of concern to her disappearance, a few days prior, staff overheard her on the phone with a man she called "Uncle Charles." She told people that this "uncle" was going to pick her up for a family funeral, but her family has no relative by that name. It remains unknown if this individual is connected to her disappearance. The investigation into Rose Marie Timperley's whereabouts has continued for years, with law enforcement considering multiple possibilities, including the potential for human trafficking. Rose is described as being 5'5" and weighing around 120 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. She often dyed her hair or wore wigs and wore black and pink eyeglasses. She has a "stork bite" birthmark on the back of her neck and a burn scar in an unknown location. Her trusting nature and eagerness to please others made her particularly susceptible. The case is a painful and unresolved mystery for her family and the community, a story of a young, vulnerable woman who disappeared into the night, leaving behind only questions and a deep sense of loss. The Okmulgee County Sheriff's Office continues to ask for any information regarding her case.
