In the summer of 1981, a 19-year-old woman named Phyliss E. Brewer, also known by her nickname "Sparky," seemingly vanished from her life in Lowellville, Ohio. On June 13th of that year, she was last seen leaving a residence on North Hubbard Road, intending to go for a walk. She never returned, and for reasons that remain unclear, her disappearance went unreported for decades. Phyliss was a student at Conneaut High School in Ashtabula County, which was about an hour north of where she was last seen. At the time, she was living with her father in Conneaut. Standing at five feet six inches tall with blonde or red hair, Phyliss was a young woman on the cusp of adulthood whose life took an unknown and tragic turn. The circumstances surrounding the lack of an immediate investigation into Phyliss's disappearance are as perplexing as the vanishing itself. It wasn't until 2014, thirty-three years after she was last seen, that law enforcement officially began to investigate her case. The catalyst for this long-overdue inquiry was the death of her sister. When the coroner's office was handling her sister's affairs, they discovered that another sibling, Phyliss, was unaccounted for, which finally prompted an official inquiry into her whereabouts. By this time, both of her parents and all of her siblings had passed away, leaving a significant void in the information that could be gathered about her life and the days leading up to her disappearance. Investigators were, however, able to obtain a DNA sample from her niece to aid in the search. The investigation into Phyliss Brewer's disappearance has been fraught with challenges due to the significant passage of time. Complicating matters further are court records indicating that a "Phyllis Brewer" had interactions with the Conneaut Police Department in 1982, including a ten-day jail sentence in May of that year. This has led authorities to consider the possibility that she may have disappeared at a later date than initially believed, or that another individual was using her identity. Some surviving family members have expressed their belief that her father may have been involved in her disappearance. The case of Phyliss E. Brewer is a deeply troubling story of a young woman who went for a walk and never came back, her absence unnoticed by official channels for over three decades. The long delay in the investigation has left a cold trail, but the efforts to find answers for Phyliss continue, driven by the hope of one day understanding what happened to the young woman known as "Sparky."
