On a summer morning in 1983, John E. Warren, a 69-year-old retired engineering professor, left his home in Toms River, New Jersey, for his daily walk. He told his wife he was heading towards Ocean County College, a route he knew well, and that he would be back in about an hour. He was seen by a security guard on College Drive at 9:15 a.m. and later spoke with a jogger on Brokaw Boulevard around 9:50 a.m. However, he never returned home from his walk and has not been seen or heard from since.
