In the summer of 2015, a 16-year-old boy named Javier Octavio Rodriguez vanished from his life in Annapolis, Maryland. Originally from El Salvador, Javier had moved to the United States in 2012 to join his mother, who had immigrated years earlier. He adapted well to his new life, quickly learning English and enjoying typical teenage pastimes like skateboarding and listening to music.
Javier was a student at Annapolis High School and held a job at a local Burger King, having previously worked at a downtown restaurant for about six months. He was known to suffer from depression and had been prescribed medication, which he did not have with him at the time of his disappearance.
On the evening of August 6, 2015, Javier finished his shift at the Burger King located in the 1900 block of West Street. At approximately 9:00 p.m., he left the restaurant with his skateboard, still dressed in his work uniform which consisted of a beige shirt, black pants, and a beige cap, along with black low-cut Nike shoes. He has not been seen or heard from since that evening. Initially, his case was classified as a runaway, as he had run away once before that same summer but had returned after only a day. However, as time passed without any contact, the concern for his safety grew significantly.
Years after his disappearance, Javier's case remains unsolved and he is classified as a "critically missing" person. In 2019, authorities announced they had received "concerning information" regarding both Javier's case and the disappearance of another 16-year-old from Annapolis, David Rivera, who went missing in 2017. This led to a renewed push for information, with the Anne Arundel County Police Department offering a $10,000 reward for information that could lead to the recovery of either teenager. Police have expressed that the lack of social media or phone activity in Javier's case is unusual for a teen runaway situation.
