On the evening of April 19, 1993, 25-year-old Robert John Bornos, known to his friends and family as "Link," was in high spirits. He had just completed his first day at a new job as a caretaker for a private property in Trappe, Maryland, and was excited about this new chapter in his life. After having dinner with his mother, Linda Blizzard, at her home in Cordova, he made plans to celebrate with friends.
He left his own car in the parking lot of a butcher's shop and got a ride with friends to the Choptank Inn on Route 50 in Easton, a regular spot for them to shoot pool and socialize. The evening progressed as many others had, with Bornos enjoying the company of his friends.
As the night drew to a close, around 2:00 a.m., Bornos mentioned to his friends that he was not feeling well and was going to step outside into the parking lot for some fresh air. He was last seen standing near a blue vehicle in the inn's parking lot. When his friends came out a short time later, he was gone. They initially thought he might have gotten a ride home with someone else. However, after checking with his mother and sister, with whom he sometimes stayed, it became apparent that no one had seen or heard from him. Approximately one week after he was last seen, his family located his own vehicle, abandoned in the parking lot of the butcher's shop seven miles from the Choptank Inn where he had left it. Despite this discovery, a formal missing person report was not filed for another five years.
The investigation into Robert Bornos's disappearance has left his family with many unanswered questions. At the time he went missing, he was described as a 25-year-old white male, 5'8" tall and weighing 165 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He wore eyeglasses with dark brown plastic frames, had his right ear pierced, and had a tattoo of a heart on his left arm. The night he vanished, he was wearing a white t-shirt featuring the rock band The Who, blue jeans, white tube socks, and orange and white Nike sneakers. While he was close with his parents and sister, it was known that he and his wife had a tumultuous relationship that sometimes required police intervention. Foul play is suspected in his case, and his family believes he is deceased. Over the years, there have been few leads, including a potential connection to a case in North Carolina that was ultimately ruled out and unconfirmed sightings in other states.
