On May 20, 1983, 54-year-old Jesse Albertine Hoover was last seen at the Baxter State Park Headquarters in Millinocket, Maine. An inexperienced hiker with no specialized gear, Hoover had traveled from her home in Texas to Maine with the ambitious goal of hiking the entire Appalachian Trail, a journey of over 2,000 miles to Georgia.
