Betsy Morales-Soto, a 47-year-old woman from Key Largo, Florida, went missing on October 4, 2022, under tragic and mysterious circumstances. Betsy was last seen with her companion, Omar Millet-Torres, and their dog on a boat off the coast of Key West. The couple had been living on their boat since July 2022, but their disappearance occurred during the approach of Hurricane Ian, a Category 4 storm that hit Florida with devastating force on September 28, 2022.
The last communication from Omar came late on September 27, 2022, when he called the U.S. Coast Guard to report worsening weather conditions as the hurricane approached. Despite rescue efforts involving Coast Guard helicopters, vessels, and aircraft, no trace of the couple or their boat was found. By October 4, 2022, the search was officially suspended. The couple's fate remains unknown, although it is feared they may have been caught in the hurricane and lost at sea.
The case has drawn attention not only due to the timing with the hurricane but also because of the mystery surrounding their disappearance. Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact the Coast Guard, as the couple’s boat has not been recovered, and no further leads have emerged since the search was called off.
