In early 1988, a young man named Ricky Lynn Nelms, aged 20, made the journey from his family's home in Moulton, Alabama, to Wichita, Kansas, with a friend named Jerry Wayne Trussell. They were seeking work as roofers, following storms to repair damaged homes. This trip, however, would be the last time Ricky's family would see him.
