Johnny Jermain Worthens Jr., a 24-year-old man from Pahokee, Florida, was last seen on September 20, 2022. Prior to his disappearance, he may have been with a friend near Currie Park in West Palm Beach, Florida. His mother reported him missing two days after he was last seen, noting that he had never gone more than a day without contacting his family. He has not been heard from since.
At the time of his disappearance, Worthens was wearing a white t-shirt, blue, red, and grey pajama pants, and white sneakers.
In a significant development related to the case, three local men were charged in March 2023 in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Pahokee in November 2022. The defendants were identified as Larry Dunnon, a relative of Worthens, and Thomas Murvin and Drake Hamilton, who were friends of Worthens. They were charged with first-degree murder and giving a false report in the death of a 33-year-old man.
Authorities believe the November 2022 shooting was not a drug deal gone wrong, as the defendants initially claimed, but rather a confrontation with the victim over rumors of his alleged involvement in Worthens's disappearance. The victim, whose name has not been publicly released, was pronounced dead in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. During the incident, Murvin was accidentally shot and subsequently paralyzed. Law enforcement has not stated whether they believe the victim of the shooting was in fact involved in Worthens's disappearance.
