On April 16, 1973, 17-year-old William Henry Forshee Jr., his father William Henry Forshee Sr., and two other men, Minni or Benny Gaskins and DeWitt Lewis, departed from Miami, Florida, for an overnight fishing trip to Marco Island. The four men were traveling in an eighteen-foot outboard boat and were never seen or heard from again. Foul play is suspected in their disappearance.
Authorities later located the men's truck, a green 1969 Ford F100 with Florida license plates, and the boat trailer at Captain's Landing Marina on Marco Island. The marina is located in the 1000 block of Bald Eagle Drive. However, the eighteen-foot boat and its four occupants remain missing. At the time of his disappearance, William Jr. had a burn scar on his right leg and skin graft scars on both of his thighs. His father, William Sr., was 47 years old, had a mustache, walked with a limp, and was missing his left eye. Vital statistics and photographs for Gaskins and Lewis are unavailable.
In a concurrent but unconfirmed connection, another boater, Robert Stone of Fort Myers, Florida, also went missing around the same time. Stone was in a 14-foot boat, and it is unclear if he or his vessel were ever located. The disappearances of all five men remain unsolved.
