In the late summer of 2018, the life of Eric Todd Ewing, a man known for his towering height and friendly nature, took a deeply unsettling turn. At 43 years old, Eric was navigating a period of homelessness in Aurora, Colorado, yet he remained a consistent and caring presence in the lives of his family and friends, with whom he stayed in regular contact. It was entirely out of character for him to disappear without a word. Known affectionately as 'Too Tall' due to his 6'9' stature, he was a familiar face in the areas of East 6th Avenue and Peoria Street, as well as East Colfax Avenue and Florence Street. Eric, a Black male with black hair and brown eyes, had lived in various places, including Puerto Rico, Washington, and Wyoming, but had spent most of his life in Colorado. His disappearance left a void in the lives of his mother, two brothers, and four sisters who cared for him.
The circumstances surrounding Eric's disappearance are profoundly disturbing and began to unfold on August 20, 2018. On that day, authorities received a 911 call reporting a significant amount of blood discovered near a dumpster in an alley behind the Del Mar Apartments on Del Mar Circle. The scene was alarming, with blood having dripped from a waste disposal truck, pooling beneath the dumpster. Investigators from the Aurora Police Department secured the scene and began the arduous task of analysis. DNA testing soon confirmed the authorities' fears: the blood belonged to Eric Todd Ewing. This grim discovery officially marked the beginning of his missing person case, transforming a day of uncertainty into a full-fledged investigation into his welfare and whereabouts.
In the wake of the DNA match, law enforcement officials launched an intensive search effort. Specially trained K-9 units were brought to the scene and eventually led investigators to the vast Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site Landfill.
