On March 30, 1977, two-year-old Tiffani Claudette Wise and her older half-sister, five-year-old Brandi Summers, were abducted from their home in San Bernardino, California. The girls' mother, Beverly Wise, was found murdered inside the residence, having been stabbed to death. An eight-month-old sister was discovered unharmed in the home. Witnesses reported seeing a man resembling Brandi's father and Beverly's ex-husband, Roy Summers, outside the house that day.
The man was seen putting Tiffani into a gold Camaro.
Tiffani was born on March 24, 1975, and was described as a White female with blonde/strawberry, naturally curly hair and blue/hazel eyes. She had a surgical scar on her head from an operation in 1975. At the time of her disappearance, she was between 2'0" and 3'5" tall and weighed between 40 and 50 pounds.
The investigation into the disappearance of Tiffani and Brandi and the murder of their mother has spanned decades. Roy Summers, who had a history of violence towards his wives, was an initial person of interest. After the abduction, there were unconfirmed sightings of the girls with Summers in Idaho, Utah, and Nevada. In 1979, Summers was located and arrested in Oregon, where authorities found photographs of the girls and some of their belongings.
Several other individuals were arrested in connection with the case. Juanita "Tiny" Iwakiri was charged with kidnapping after allegedly caring for the girls at her daycare. She was convicted in Tiffani's case but the conviction was later overturned. Lee Allan Casner, Iwakiri's brother, and his sister-in-law, Vivian Casner, were also charged as accessories, as was Roy Summers' sister, Karen Carino, but these charges were eventually dropped. Roy Summers was tried for the murder of Beverly Wise and the abduction of the girls but was acquitted of all charges.
