Ruben was last seen in Rancho Cucamonga, California on February 1, 2017. He has never been heard from again. He was not reported missing until August 2019. Ruben was affiliated with a religious group based in Hemet, California, Way Spirit Led Assemblies. In December 2025, one of the two leaders of the group, Shelley Bailey "Kathryn" Martin, and a prominent member of the group, Ruben's brother Rudy Moreno, were charged with the murder of Emilio Ghanem, who has been missing since May 2023, shortly after he left the group. In January 2026 another suspect, Ramon Ruiz Duran Jr., was arrested in Tennessee for Emilio's murder. Shelley and her husband, Darryl Muzic Martin, were also charged with the murder of a four-year-old boy, Timothy Thomas. Timothy's father, Andre Thomas, was also charged with murder. The child's parents had relinquished custody of him to the Martins one month before his death from appendicitis in 2010, and authorities stated he died because the Martins and Andre prevented him from getting medical treatment for his illness. It isn't clear whether Ruben's disappearance is related to Way Spirit Led Assemblies, but authorities are investigating that possibility.
