Jack Irwin, a 71-year-old disabled Army veteran, was last seen on September 13, 1999, in Upland, California. At the time of his disappearance, Irwin had several medical issues that made walking and speaking difficult. He was last seen wearing a purple t-shirt and green jeans. Irwin, a resident of Mt. Baldy, was described as a white male with gray hair and green eyes, standing at 5'10" and weighing 138 pounds.
Approximately nine months before he vanished, Irwin sold his cabin in Mt. Baldy to two women, Marcia Ann Johnson and Judy Gellert, who subsequently befriended him. In the month leading up to his disappearance, Irwin signed over his financial assets, valued at around $250,000, to Johnson and Gellert. He also agreed to leave his estate to them upon his death. Johnson and Gellert had been staying with Irwin in his Upland condominium but moved out before he went missing.
Marcia Johnson reported Irwin missing to the Upland Police Department on October 3, 1999. She claimed that Irwin had taken a train to Seattle, Washington, with $5,000 and a change of clothes and was never heard from again. However, an investigation revealed a more sinister series of events. After Irwin's disappearance, Johnson depleted his bank accounts, sold his Upland home, and burned down his Mt. Baldy cabin to collect the insurance money.
In 2001, Marcia Ann Johnson was arrested in connection with Irwin's disappearance. During questioning, she confessed to shooting Irwin in the back of the head, dismembering his body with a chainsaw, and disposing of his remains in various locations around the Mt. Baldy area. She later recanted this confession. Despite the lack of a body, Johnson was convicted of Irwin's murder in November 2004 and was subsequently sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Her partner, Judy Gellert, pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property in exchange for testifying against Johnson. Jack Irwin's body has never been recovered.Last Seen: Sep 13, 1999
