The lawsuit stemmed from a 2011 incident where he was arrested for a probation violation while intoxicated and causing a disturbance. During the arrest, a fire started in the back of the police car, causing burns to over a third of his body. Police alleged he intentionally set himself on fire, a claim his brother disputed, stating the fire was accidental as he tried to light a cigarette.
