Joan Audrey Davis, 47, and her husband, Peter, were last seen in Los Angeles, California on March 17, 1982, and have not been heard from since. The couple resided in Granada Hills, California at the time of their disappearance. Joan is a Caucasian female with blonde hair and blue eyes, and was 5'6" and approximately 145 pounds at the time she went missing. She may have used the last name Currie.
Peter, 54, was a Caucasian male with gray or partially gray hair and brown eyes, who stood at 5'5" and weighed around 136 pounds.
Authorities identified Harvey Rader, a former Reseda car dealer, as a possible suspect in the couple's disappearance. Investigators believe that a business-related dispute may have been the motive for the presumed murders of Peter and Joan. Rader was also a suspect in the disappearance of another family, the Salomons, who vanished from Northridge, California just two miles from the Davis's home, seven months after the Davises were last seen. Sol Salomon, the patriarch of the family, also had business dealings with Rader.
Rader's cousin, Ashley Paulle, implicated Rader in both the Davis and Salomon disappearances. Paulle claimed that Rader murdered the Davises to steal valuable artwork from their home and that he assisted Rader in burying their bodies in the desert near Bakersfield. According to Paulle, he witnessed Rader shoot Peter Davis. He also stated that he saw Joan Davis shortly after but did not warn her, and later saw her body when he helped Rader bury them. Despite Paulle's testimony, the bodies of Joan and Peter Davis have never been found.
Harvey Rader was tried multiple times in connection with the disappearance of the Salomon family, which included Sol and Elaine Salomon, and their two children, Michelle Houchman and Mitchel Salomon. However, after two mistrials, he was acquitted in his third trial in 1992. Rader was never formally charged in the disappearance of Joan and Peter Davis.
