Amanda Kathleen Custer, a 31-year-old woman from Monrovia, California, was last seen on July 29, 2019. Her disappearance is being treated as a homicide, and her boyfriend, Robert Anthony Camou, has been charged with her murder. A witness reported seeing Camou put Custer's limp body into the trunk of his Toyota Prius. Despite extensive searches, Custer's body has not been found.
The events leading to Custer's disappearance began on the morning of July 29, 2019, at a residence on Vaquero Road in Monrovia. A neighbor witnessed Camou dragging what appeared to be an unconscious Custer and placing her in the trunk of his gray 2017 Toyota Prius. The witness reported the incident as a possible domestic violence situation, and when police arrived, they found evidence of a violent assault, including blood. Investigators later discovered blood in the trunk of Camou's car, along with a digging tool.
Following the abduction, Camou's car was seen traveling towards Mount Baldy. That evening, he was seen at a bar in downtown Los Angeles where he performed a rap song with lyrics about killing and burying a woman. Camou was arrested the next day after a five-hour standoff with police in downtown Los Angeles. At the time of his arrest, Custer was not with him.
Camou's history with Custer included previous incidents of domestic violence. In April 2019, he had been arrested for allegedly assaulting and strangling her, and threatening her with a Taser. He was out on bail for these charges when Custer disappeared. In September 2019, Camou was charged with the capital murder of Amanda Custer. The charges include the special circumstance of killing a witness. As of September 2024, a pretrial hearing was scheduled in the case.
