Hester Lee Chandler, a 60-year-old woman from Modesto, California, vanished on September 12, 1974, after withdrawing nearly $9,000 from her bank account. She has not been seen or heard from since. Following her disappearance, Chandler's car was discovered parked outside her residence. Inside the vehicle were cardboard boxes filled with her clothing.
Investigators found a peculiar scene inside her home.
Her credit cards and identification were left behind, with some of the cards having been partially burned. Adding to the mystery, her house keys were found on the living room floor. Chandler was an employee at Tri/Valley Growers at the time of her disappearance.
Authorities have long suspected James Toliver, a coworker of Chandler's, in her disappearance. Toliver, a forklift driver, was linked to the disappearances of several other women and the 1980 murder of Florence Richina. Toliver died of a heart attack in 1980 while fleeing the scene of Richina's murder, taking with him any potential answers about Hester Lee Chandler's fate. Her case is considered a missing person case under suspicious circumstances and remains unsolved.Last Seen: Sep 12, 1974
