On June 17, 2016, 52-year-old Floyd E. Roberts III went missing in a remote area of the western Grand Canyon. An experienced hiker, Roberts was on a planned nine-day trek with a friend and his daughter on the Shivwits Plateau when he became separated from them. Roberts was last seen in Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. He and a group had started a nine-day hike on the Shivwits Plateau in a remote portion of western Grand Canyon, when he got separated from the others. He was last seen near Kelly Tank, walking towards Trail Canyon/214 Mile Canyon to the river. He may have descended into 209 Mile Canyon. He has never been heard from again and an extensive search turned up no indication of his whereabouts. His case remains unsolved.
