In the summer of 2023, concern grew for a 21-year-old woman named Wicheng Deng, who was last seen in the Bellevue, Washington area on August 7th of that year. In the days leading up to her disappearance, Wicheng, who also goes by the nickname Imani, had been dropped off at a relative's home in Federal Way by a man she referred to as a date.
