In the quiet community of Damariscotta, Maine, concern grew for 34-year-old Tyler Low, who was reported missing by his family on May 5, 2025. He was last seen at approximately 7:30 in the morning, leaving his residence on Heater Road and walking into the woods behind his house. Known to be an experienced outdoorsman who was very familiar with the local woodlands, his disappearance was unsettling for those who knew him.
At the time he was last seen, Low was wearing brown Carhartt pants, a light blue t-shirt, boots, and a multicolored handkerchief around his neck. The Damariscotta Police Department, along with the Maine Warden Service, initiated a search for him the following day.
The search for Tyler Low was a collaborative effort involving law enforcement, his family, and community members. K-9 units from both the Maine Warden Service and the Maine State Police were deployed to aid in the search efforts in the dense woods he was known to frequent. Authorities reached out to the public for any information, asking residents to check security or game cameras for any signs of Low. Despite the extensive searches and the community's hope for his safe return, weeks turned into months with no sign of the missing man. The lack of any leads was particularly puzzling given Low's experience and comfort in the outdoors.
Tragically, the search came to a somber conclusion nearly six months after he was last seen. On Sunday, October 26, 2025, a landowner discovered human remains in a wooded area while walking his property line in Damariscotta. Authorities from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, assisted by the Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service, and Damariscotta Police Department, responded to the scene. Investigators determined that the remains were likely those of Tyler Low. The remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for positive identification and to determine the cause of death. Low's family was notified of the discovery. While the official cause of death was pending the medical examiner's findings, authorities stated that there was no evidence of a crime in connection with his death. The discovery brought a heartbreaking end to a case that had gripped the small Maine community, concluding the search for a man who had vanished into the familiar woods behind his home.Last Seen: May 5, 2025
