On May 26, 2025, a tragic boating incident occurred off the coast of Mekoryuk, a remote village on Nunivak Island in western Alaska. Three individuals were aboard a 10-foot Ocean Pro skiff engaged in seasonal subsistence seal hunting when the vessel encountered rough water conditions and began taking on water from the motor side, ultimately leading to its sinking.
