In the late hours of May 31, 2024, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, 19-year-old Kaedian Tyshaun Allen’s life took an unforeseen turn. He was a passenger in a vehicle that police attempted to stop for traffic violations. The driver, however, chose to flee, leading officers on a brief pursuit before the car was lost from their sight. Later, the vehicle was discovered abandoned in the parking area of the Quarry at Grant Park.
The driver was subsequently located and arrested, but Kaedian, a young man with brown eyes, black hair worn in dreadlocks, and braces, was nowhere to be found. He was last seen wearing a distinctive black and red Nike jacket, dark pants, and slides.
The initial search for Kaedian that night, which included the use of a drone with thermal imaging capabilities and a review of surveillance footage, yielded no sign of the missing teenager. Concern grew when, on June 2, Kaedian's family reported to the Winston-Salem Police Department that he had not returned home, an occurrence they described as highly unusual. This prompted a more intensive and multi-agency search effort in and around the quarry. Over the following days and weeks, the park was closed to the public as law enforcement, in collaboration with the Winston-Salem and High Point Fire Departments, the NC State Bureau of Investigation, and federal partners, conducted extensive searches. These efforts were exhaustive, employing bloodhounds, boats, sonar technology, and submersible drones to scour the land and the depths of the quarry's water, yet no trace of Kaedian was found.
As the investigation has continued, authorities have stated that no foul play is suspected in Kaedian's disappearance, and he is not wanted in connection with any crime. Surveillance video from the night he went missing was publicly released, showing the driver of the vehicle being arrested at the park; however, Kaedian is not visible in the footage. The case remains an active missing person investigation, a painful and unresolved situation for his family and the community.
