On August 22, 1981, 21-year-old Joseph "Joe" Grasher was attending a birthday party in the 1000 block of Poyntz Avenue in Manhattan, Kansas. At some point during the evening, Grasher departed the gathering in his red van, accompanied by 26-year-old Stephen "Stevie" Hammerle and two other individuals. This marked the last known sighting of both Grasher and Hammerle, as neither they nor the red van have been located since that night.
